The perfect escape from a humid, tropical environment Munnar is known for its hill stations and breathtaking views. The greenery combined with tea plantations and a colonial heritage make it a tourist’s favourite destination in Kerala. It has the Tata Tea museum where you can learn the process of making tea, tree houses, camping and trekking opportunities, mountain biking on rocky paths, elephant safari at the Carmelagiri Elephant Park, Lakkam waterfalls, and wildlife sanctuaries.
It is located in the Idukki district of Kerala and is at an altitude of 700m above the sea level. It is the home to India’s largest wildlife sanctuary. A pleasant place, it is great for adventurous, fun-loving nature lovers. The most prominent attraction here is the Periyar National Park and the 120 years old ‘Surki’ dam built across Periyar. When you are in Thekkady, you cannot miss Murikkady, Chellarkovil, Anakkara, Mangala Devi Temple, bamboo rafting, elephant rides and the forests around Thekkady which are uninhabited by the Forest Department to preserve the nature. Thekkady also has the Kadathanadan Kalari Centre where the oldest form of martial art is performed and Navarasa Kathakali where dancers showcase their performances.
Kovalam is located along the coastline of the Arabian Sea. Kovalam is famous for its beaches that are ideal for surfing and motorboat riding. The famous beaches of the place are; Lighthouse beach, Samudra beach and Hawah beach. Another popular thing to do here is the Ayurvedic treatment, yoga, meditation and other cultural activities
Thiruvananthapuram or Trivandrum is the capital of Kerala. It is a beautiful seaside city built on seven hills. Some of the landmarks of the place include Shri Padmanabhaswamy and Royal Palace, Puttan Malika, Varkala beach, Agasthyakoodam, Aruvikkara, Balaramapuram, Neyyattinkara, Anchuthengu and Kombaikani waterfalls. It also hosts a few music events including Nishagandhi in January and Swathi Sangeethotsavam in October/November.
